Shama Judah is a passionate vocalist from Los Angeles, USA who has been reciting Ginans since the age of five. Her musical passion broadened when she joined her local Ismaili band in 2015. Since then, she has been training in Hindustani Classical music as a means to continue to pursue her love for devotional and folk music. She enjoys learning new styles, singing in different languages, and collaborating with various Ismaili artists across the globe. It is through music she finds a way to inspire others and connect her soul with the Divine.
During the Diamond Jubilee year, Shama was featured on three different Diamond Jubilee albums and performed two solo pieces at the International Jubilee Arts Festival in Lisbon, Portugal where she had the opportunity to share the stage with well-renowned Ismaili artists, such as Sarah Thawer. Additionally, she was also a part of the national theatrical production, Stories: Our American Journey, as a vocalist in the choir. This first-ever Ismaili Broadway-style musical toured several cities across the USA during the Diamond Jubilee year and gave artists opportunities to perform at prestigious venues, such as the Walt Disney Theatre in Orlando, Florida.
Currently, Shama leads the Ismaili Muslim Choir of Los Angeles, where she performs in a variety of languages, such as Arabic, English, Farsi, Hebrew, and Pashto, to name a few. Many of her performances have been in front of heads of state, and civic and religious leaders, including Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti at the National Day of Prayer event.
Shama spends much of her time honing her talent and skills to learn, practice, and enhance her voice as she finds inner peace and joy through the process. It is her hope to continue using devotional music as a creative outlet to express herself and ultimately become closer to Him.
